We Have Access Roman 5: 1-2

"We Have Access" What a privilege; Now that we have been reconciled back to God we have been granted access into sweet communion with God. The truth about access is great and news even gets better when we continue next week with "how much the more".

We Have Access

Romans 5:1-2

Romans 5:1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

-

Privilege

-

Romans 5:1 starts with the word therefore. Because of what has just been writing from the beginning of the letter of Romans to now we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. For review what have we seen in Romans chapters 1-4?

-

Paul wrote the book of Romans to declare the Just shall live by faith. The wicked, the law keepers and the morally good were all placed in the same spot. There is none good, no not one. We may find a good man if we compare ourselves among ourselves; however when it come to how great God is, there is none that is righteous. The Scriptures have confined all men under the law that all mouths may be stopped for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Then God revealed his great plan of salvation; God plan was bringing the righteousness of God apart from the works of the law. Man being justified by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ alone. As Abraham believed God and it was counted to him for righteousness so we are justified by faith in Jesus Christ. All these truth lead up to the therefore in Romans 5.

-

Having been justified by faith we have peace with God. Peace is having an oneness with God. The magnitude of justification is so great because it gives us access into this grace in which we stand. Access is into the unmerited favor of God and His divine influence upon our hearts. Saved by grace and not of works least any man should boast! What does access by faith into this grace do for us? Yes, yes it brings us to faith in God but that is not all that it does.

-

Romans 1:5 Through Him we have received grace and apostleship for obedience to the faith among all nations for His name,

-

The grace and gifts God have been given to us is for the obedience to the faith. Grace has been given to empower us to fulfill the purpose God has for His children.

-

Romans 16:24 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. 25 Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began 26 but now has been made manifest, and by the prophetic Scriptures has been made known to all nations, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, for obedience to the faith;

-

Grace has been given to establish you for the obedience to the faith!

-

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. 9 Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines. For it is good that the heart be established by grace, not with foods which have not profited those who have been occupied with them.

-

The divine influence of Jesus is how your heart will be established. Having an intimate relationship with Jesus and faith in His atoning work is the only way a heart can be established and walk at peace with God. There are so many strange doctrines producing a list of do’s and don’ts; they are false doctrines. We need to come back and partake from justification by faith in Jesus Christ alone.

-

There is a standard by which man can tell if he has truly entered the grace of God. The standard is not by your opinion or my opinion; it must be that which is founded solely on the Word of God!

-

Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.

-

If you have come into the true grace of God it teaches you! The grace of God will establish your heart! The grace of God empowers you to obey. The grace of God teaches us to deny the ungodliness and worldly lust. Not only does it teach us what to deny but it also compels us to live righteously and godly in the present age. God grace always leaves your expectation in the risen Savior. I have heard many explain grace as their excuse to continue in the snare of sin they find themselves caught in; however grace imparts truth to the hearer that will set them free from the snare of the fowler.

-

2 Timothy 2:25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, 26 and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.

-

Grace gives us unparallel access into God’s presence.

-

Mark 15:37 And Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and breathed His last. 38 Then the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.

-

In the Old Testament the presence of God dwelt behind the veil in the Most Holy Place . This was the place where only the High Priest was allowed access to God; this access was limited to once a year at the time of the atonement offering. In the most Holy Place the High Priest would go in at the time of the atonement and apply the blood of the innocent animal to make atonement for the sins of the nation Israel .

-

When the sins of the people were being atoned the innocent sacrifice bore the guilt and shame of sin; however the sacrifice was closely examined to see if it qualified to make atonement. The High Priest would carefully examine the sacrifice offered; the sacrifice had to be perfect. Before the sacrifice could be examined the Priest had to carefully be cleansed before he qualified to offer the sacrifice for the sin. There was a cleansing for the nation but it all pointed to a greater cleansing coming

-

Jesus is the Lamb of God that took away the sins of the world. Jesus is the first High Priest coming with the power of an endless life giving us access into the very presence of God. After pouring out His soul for an offering for sin the veil in the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. Access had been granted in the heavenly temple not made with hands. The Lamb was examined and has been declared worthy to open the book. The High Priest came being sinless and had the power of an endless life.

-

Ephesians 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.14 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, 15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, 16 and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. 17 And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near. 18 For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father. 19 Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,

-

Jesus brought us near with His blood; He Himself is our peace. The middle wall of separation was the veil between God’s presence and His people. In Jesus flesh the enmity was abolished! The reconciling of both Jew and Gentile was through the cross, there by putting to death the enmity. The way of access has been made there is no hostility between God the Father and man. It was ended on the cross when enmity was put to death. This is the grace message we need to lay hold of; Jesus finished the work of the cross and the enmity was abolished.

-

Colossians 2:13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.

-

The handwriting of requirement that was against us has been taken out of the way. That which was contrary to us exposing us as sinners was nailed to the cross. Jesus has forgiven you all trespasses!

-

Colossians 1:19 For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, 20 and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.

-

The hostility was ended with peace being made by the blood of Jesus Christ cross! Justification came by faith in the atoning work Christ has done

-

Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,

-

The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made us free from the law of sin and death. Jesus dealt with sin to gain access into the very throne of God for all who would be justified by faith in Him.

-

Hebrews 6:19 This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, 20 where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.

-

Amazing grace; amazing access to God!

-

Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

-

Our High Priest can sympathize with our weaknesses! In our hour of weakness and in the time we need grace the most, we have been invited to come boldly! We have not left the thought found in Romans 5:2 we have access… If ever you have placed your faith in Jesus as your Messiah, in your time of need come to the throne of grace!

-

Romans 5:1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

-

Rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Access has been granted! The sacrifice was holy enough and great enough and the High Priest was well qualified to bring you into the very presence of God. Come on in!
