Jesus the Foundation

Jesus the Foundation, the Chief Corner Stone

Psalms 11:3  If the foundations are destroyed, What can the righteous do?

If the foundation is destroyed there is nothing the righteous can do!  Israel was brought into covenant with God; the priest, prophet, and king had forsaken the way of God.  Indeed the foundations had been destroyed.

Jeremiah 5:30  "An astonishing and horrible thing Has been committed in the land:  31 The prophets prophesy falsely, And the priests rule by their own power; And My people love to have it so. But what will you do in the end?

The covenant of the law of Moses was established.  When the prophet and priest had a heart for God the nation would flourish; if the prophet and priest forsook the law of God the nation would be in decline.  Later when Israel begin to have kings, Israel only did as well to the degree to which the reigning king followed God.  Israel fell to such depths the prophets prophesied falsely and the priest ruled by their own power.  There was a great disconnect from God.  The people were so blind to the astonishing and horrible situation that they loved to have it so.   Here in Jeremiah’s day the foundation of the covenant had been destroyed and what could the righteous do?  God’s people had wrong perspective because of the false prophets, wicked priest, and evil kings.

2 Chronicles 36:16  But they mocked the messengers of God, despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against His people, till there was no remedy.

Isaiah 59:16  He saw that there was no man, And wondered that there was no intercessor; Therefore His own arm brought salvation for Him; And His own righteousness, it sustained Him.

God had a plan to raise up a prophet, priest and king; no longer was a covenant going to depend upon the strengthen of human flesh.  God’s plan was to bring salvation with His own arm.

Psalm 118:22  The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone.  23  This was the Lord's doing; It is marvelous in our eyes.  24  This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it

It is the stone the builders rejected; yes indeed, it is the chief cornerstone.  God Himself brought salvation!  The day the chief cornerstone is revealed is the we can declare “This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.”  When this was written it was prophetic; today it has come to pass through Jesus Christ.

Acts 4:11  "This is the 'stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.'  12  "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

Jesus is the Chief cornerstone that the Old Testament prophets testified was coming!  Salvation is exclusively found in the name of Jesus and there is no other way.

Isaiah 28:16  Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: "Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, A tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; Whoever believes will not act hastily.

Have no fear child of God the foundation has been laid, a tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure  foundation!  We no longer have to depend on an earthly priesthood or earthly kings; we have a heavenly priesthood and a king that is the King of kings.  This foundation can not be destroyed; we can walk in confidence in our God.

Hebrews 7:11  Therefore, if perfection were through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law), what further need was there that another priest should rise according to the order of Melchizedek, and not be called according to the order of Aaron?  12  For the priesthood being changed, of necessity there is also a change of the law.

Changing of the priesthood made it necessary for a changing of the law.  Why?  We needed a sure foundation, a precious corner stone, and a priest that could bring perfection!

Hebrews 7:15  And it is yet far more evident if, in the likeness of Melchizedek, there arises another priest  16  who has come, not according to the law of a fleshly commandment, but according to the power of an endless life.  17  For He testifies: "You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek."

The priesthood from the Levites was the law of fleshly commandment.  It was based upon the performance of the people.  Our Priesthood is solely based on Jesus Christ our Lord and the power of an endless life.

Hebrews 7:18  For on the one hand there is an annulling of the former commandment because of its weakness and unprofitableness,  19  for the law made nothing perfect; on the other hand, there is the bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.

What is weak and unprofitable in the former commandment?  It was mere sinful man who served as priest, yes Levites, but nonetheless men subject to sin themselves.  Even the best of priest who lived for God service was ended at their death.  If the next priest was not dedicated to the service of God the nation went the same direction.  The law could make nothing perfect; there is the bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.  It is this new priesthood that offers an intimacy with God.  There was the annulling of the former commandment for a better hope based on a sure foundation that could not be destroyed.

Hebrews 7:21  (for they have become priests without an oath, but He with an oath by Him who said to Him: "The LORD has sworn And will not relent, 'You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek'"),  22  by so much more Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant.

Becoming a Levitical priest was based upon being born a Levite; Jesus was made priest by an oath from God.  Jesus is the surety of a better covenant.  Some declare they are still under the law of Moses; really?  It is time to come to the better covenant where the foundation is established and protected by a better High Priest.

Hebrews 7:23  Also there were many priests, because they were prevented by death from continuing.  24  But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood.

Under the covenant of the law of Moses the quality of the priesthood was temporal at best and death ended the service of the priest.  However, Jesus Priesthood continues forever it is unchangeable.

Hebrews 7:25  Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

Jesus intercession continues forever, saving to the uttermost those who come to God through Him!

Hebrews 7:26  For such a High Priest was fitting for uswho is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens;

Jesus is fitting for us who believe.  The KJV says our High Priest “becomes us”!  Down south they know the word becomes.  If a lady put on a new dress one might say that really becomes you.  Up north we might say that really looks good on you!  Our High Priest looks good on us the believer.  Here is a great secret of the Word of God couched in this verse.  Jesus looks good on the believers but He is separate from sinners!  Some say they are sinners saved by grace.  They are not considering the truths in this verse.  Our High Priest is separate from sinners but He looks great on us.  That is why He saves to the uttermost!  Sinners saved by grace is of the Levitical priesthood; genuine believers are saved to the uttermost based on the strength of the sure foundation.

Hebrews 7:27  who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the people's, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself.

Jesus died for sin once for all.  Jesus destroyed the works of the devil at the cross.  The hostility between God and man are nailed to the cross.  There is no ordinance that remains to hold the believer guilty.  ( Col2:14)

Hebrews 7:28  For the law appoints as high priests men who have weakness, but the word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints the Son who has been perfected forever.

Based upon the perfection of Jesus Christ we have imputed to us perfection, righteousness, and holiness.

Hebrews 10:9  then He said, "Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God." He takes away the first that He may establish the second.  10  By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.  11  And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.  12  But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God,  13  from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool.  14  For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.

What a great High Priest we have.  He took away the law of Moses by fulfilling it totally.  He then established a second covenant which brought salvation for man by the arm of God Himself.  Jesus the Cornerstone the sure foundation bought us sanctification and perfection.  The Lamb has taken sin away; hope is secure in Him!

1 Peter 2:6  Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, "Behold, I lay in Zion A chief cornerstone, elect, precious, And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame."

Keep your faith in the Chief Cornerstone Jesus Christ and you will by no means be put to shame!

John 1:16  And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace.  17  For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 8:6  But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.  7  For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second.

Be a partaker at the altar of the more excellent ministry; it is a better covenant established on better promises.

Ephesians 2:19  Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,  20  having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief corner stone,  21  in whom the whole building, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord,  22  in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.
