The Word Abiding

-

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

-

The Word of God is the active agent meant to change the lives of every believer. The Word divides between spirit soul and body and can discern the thoughts and intents of the heart!

-

The Word is powerful enough to bring reconciliation Spirit to spirit!

-

John 4:23 "But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."

-

This passage is a quote from Jesus; reconciliation is Spirit to spirit.

-

Hebrews 12:22 But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, 23 to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect,

-

Hebrews agrees with Jesus declaration, you have come to Mount Zion … to the spirit of just men made perfect. This is the power of the Word of God.

-

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

-

This is a work done in our spirit; like Jesus said spirit to Spirit. Remember the opening text , the Word of God divides between spirit, soul, and body and discerns the thoughts and intents of the heart.

-

What is the work done in the soul?

-

James 1:21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

-

Receiving the implanted word of God saves your soul. God brings perfection to your spirit but there is a renewing of your mind or soul. The more you renew your mind the easier it is to walk in the Spirit.

-

Ephesians 4:22 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.

-

I often go to this verse because it explains so well between the spirit soul and body of man. As you renew your mind, you bring your soul in line with the work God has already performed in your spirit.

-

The Word of God is so great it also performs a work in your body.

-

Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

-

The working of the Word of God in our lives can not be overstated; in fact, some have missed the truth of the working of the Word and are unable to walk in victory.

-

Matthew 4:4 But He answered and said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.'"

-

If men are going to live the abundant life they must come to live by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. There is power to overcome every temptation by living by the word of God.

-

1 John 2:12 I write to you, little children, Because your sins are forgiven you for His name's sake. 13 I write to you, fathers, Because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, Because you have overcome the wicked one. I write to you, little children, Because you have known the Father. 14 I have written to you, fathers, Because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, Because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, And you have overcome the wicked one.

-

The children needed reminded theirs sins are forgiven for His name’s sake. There was a deciding factor between the young men and the children. The young men overcame the wicked one because the word of God abided in them. There is overcoming strength with the abiding of the word of God. There is a growing up and it only comes when the word of God abides in you. The fathers have walked in sweet relationship with the Father from the beginning showing their full maturity. Your relationship with the Word of God is directly related to your maturity level.

-

1 Peter 2:2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

-

Someone who has no hunger for the word of God is either not born again or is very immature.

-

Acts 20:32 "So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.

-

Paul declared the Word of His grace is able to build you up and give you an inheritance. It is the way to become a partaker of the covenant of which you have been birthed.

-

Psalm 19:10 More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. 11 Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward.

-

More to be desired is the word of God then gold, yes even the finest of gold; the word is sweeter than honey and the honeycomb.

Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer.

-

The world has perverted meditation; however meditation upon the word of God brings life. Meditation is to mutter, rehearse, and to think upon. Meditation upon the truth of the word of God can bring deliverance and success. Many believers have continued to get in a prayer line for deliverance and they can’t find victory there. The victory will only be found in meditating upon the word of God above the circumstance.

-

Psalm 1:1 Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. 3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.

-

Some folks need to first change the company they keep! Then they need to exalt the word of God to first place in their lives. The authority of the word of God promises success to them. When trouble surrounds you don’t go and ask all your friends and acquaintances what to do; seek God and go only to those who have given themselves over to the word of God for counsel.

-

2 Corinthians 10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,

-

There is no deliverance in the prayer line if you refuse to allow the word of God to change the thoughts that are exalted against His knowledge. Bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.

-

2 Peter 3:17 You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; 3:18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

-

It is not the knowledge alone that brings victory. Notice Peter said to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord. Grace is divine influence and it changes the condition of our heart.

-

John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:16 And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace.

-

Jesus Christ came full of grace and truth. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. The grace and truth we receive from Jesus in found in intimacy with Him.

-

Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

-

When the word of God goes out it, it produces faith in the hearer. God has an intended purpose for the hearer!

-

John 15:7 "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.

-

When the believer has the word abiding in them they may ask what they desire and it shall be done.

-

Isaiah 59:21 "As for Me," says the LORD, "this is My covenant with them: My Spirit who is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your descendants, nor from the mouth of your descendants' descendants," says the LORD, "from this time and forevermore." 60:1 Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you.

-

If we allow God to put His word in our mouth, we are positioned to arise, and shine for the glory of the Lord to rise upon us. When the word of God is in our mouth our light has come! Do you desire the glory? Hunger for His powerful word to be put in your mouth! May God send coals from the altar of heaven to fill our mouths!
